SUMMARY:Creating non-linear stories using Twine to support case-based learning
DESCRIPTION:Date: 30 November 2022 (Wednesday) \nTime: 12:30 pm – 1:45 pm \nVenue: RRS 321\, 3/F Run Run Shaw Building\, Main Campus\, HKU \nSpeaker: Mr. Donn Gonda\, CETL \nRegistration: https://www2.cetl.hku.hk/cetlevents/regist/492/registEvent.php?eventId=492 \nAbstract \nStorytelling can be a powerful tool to enhance students’ communication skills. These stories can help students to understand complex and abstract concepts by allowing them to immerse themselves and be part of it. Teachers can create interest-provoking and compelling cases and scenarios that will enable the students to reflect on their learning and perception to judge and act on the situation. However\, creating automated non-linear cases can be challenging and time-consuming. In this workshop\, we will use an open-source storytelling app called Twine to create these scenarios that can be customised to your context. We will work through a model example to let you experience and build your own non-linear story. \nFor information\, please contact: \nMs. Lavina Luk\, CETL \nPhone: 3917 5272; Email: ytluk89@hku.hk

SUMMARY:Untitled: A.I. and Transformations to Teaching and Learning
DESCRIPTION:Untitled: A.I. and Transformations to Teaching and Learning \n  \nThe rapid technological advances in AI deep generative models have significant and disruptive implications for teaching and learning within higher education. While there are questions and issues around academic honesty\, plagiarism\, creativity\, and originality – the potential to enhance student learning is substantial. \nJoin us for this hands-on workshop as we demonstrate the possibilities of text generation (GPT-3) and text-to-image applications (Stable Diffusion\, Midjourney\, DALL-E-2). We hope to provoke thinking and conversations around interdisciplinary and disciplinary applications for teachers. Moreover\, we hope the examples will shed light on the urgent need to re-design curriculums and assessments. \nDate/ Time: 14 December 2022 (10 am – 11 am) Via Zoom \nFacilitators:\nDr Jack Tsao\, Associate Director\, Common Core\nMr Donn Gonda\, Instructional Designer\, Centre for Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) \nRegistration: https://hkuems1.hku.hk/hkuems/ec_hdetail.aspx?ueid=85473 \nOpen to all HKU teachers \nThis workshop is a collaboration between Communication Intensive Courses (CiC)\, Common Core\, and the Centre for the Enhancement for Teaching and Learning.
