Hi all! I’m Nathanael Lai, a sophomore doing English Studies and History in the Faculty of Arts. I’m interested in language, in particular its relation to society and gender, as well as empire studies. I’m quite a music enthusiast and I’ve been playing the tuba in the Union Philharmonic in HKU. I’m glad to have enrolled in some of the most interesting and thought-provoking common-core courses in HKU, from which the perspectives acquired really supplement my learning and understanding of subjects under my own programme. The most significant experience is when I studied women’s identities in CCHU9043 in the last semester, I was inspired to apply the knowledge to an English course concerning the English lexicon, where I decided to then compile a dictionary relating to such identities, especially with regard to derogatory terms for women and their relation to gender difference.
