In collaboration with Arup (https://www.arup.com), Common Core is organising a transdisciplinary research project to study the design of open spaces across Hong Kong. Students will attend workshops and explore case studies to learn from Arup’s lighting, landscape, and acoustic expertise. Afterwards, students will conduct fieldwork site measurements and researching user-experience and demographics, and generate solutions for improving the design of open space sites for placemaking, social engagement, and sustainability.

Students must attend the following mandatory sessions:

• Workshop Sessions: Monday 24 Oct 2022, 6 – 9 pm @ Common Core Lounge MB151 and Monday 31 Oct 2022, 6 – 9 pm @ Zoom

• Fieldwork: Two evening in October/ November from 6 – 9 pm (7/11, 9/11, 14/11, 16/11)

• Final Presentation Session: Monday 5 Dec 2022, 1 – 4 pm @ Common Core Lounge MB150 or Zoom

The project is open to all undergraduate students. No prior training is necessary. However, students must possess strong written and oral communicative skills to participate. Student will be required to draft a report and deliver a final presentation to Arup.

The project requires at least 30 hours of total work. Students who complete the project will be paid a modest stipend.
