Bob Shen is a Year 1 BASc student in Global Health and Development at St. John’s College. As a Laidlaw Scholar, he researches how extreme heat affects cardiovascular admissions among Hong Kong’s elderly, combining epidemiological modelling with fieldwork. A recent ethnographic field trip to Gannan, Gansu deepened his commitment to learning that crosses borders—disciplinary, geographic, and cultural. He joined the Common Core Student Consultants because he believes the Core, at its best, is where that kind of crossing starts—and he wants to help more students experience it.
