Chinese Women Filmmakers Go Global in the Digital Age
9 December @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Transnational Chinese women filmmakers have made significant contributions to world cinema in the digital era. In the twenty-first century, border-crossing female filmmakers participate in the enormous changes happening in the global film industry as well as political, economic, technological, social, and cultural transformations taking place in the Asian region. With a close look at how women filmmakers from mainland China function within the Chinese diaspora, this analysis highlights the patterns that emerge as these directors navigate the world of international cinema. This lecture sheds light on the ongoing impact their unique perspective has on the art of world cinema by exploring the creative use of digital technology in first-person documentary filmmaking and related cinematic modes.
