[Call for Applications] Night Time Design in Hong Kong – Perceptions of Safety

Night Time Design in Hong Kong – Perceptions of Safety

Do you feel safe walking alone at night?

The Common Core in collaboration with Arup (https://www.arup.com) is providing the opportunity for students to participate in furthering the sustainable development of the city through exploring how night lighting influences perceptions of safety in different sites around Hong Kong.

The project consists of in-class workshops facilitated by Arup’s lightning designers as well as practical fieldwork in the city. Students will learn about night lighting principles, human-centered design approach, and global night management trends, while conducting site measurements and researching user-experience and demographics. No prior training is necessary.

As a prerequisite for participation in the fieldwork, students must be available to attend the following in-class sessions:

Session 1: Wed 26 Jan 2022    6 – 9 pm

Session 2: Tue 22 Mar 2022    1 – 4 pm

The project will require students commit to at least 25 hours of total work.

Registration is open to ALL undergraduate students! All students who successfully complete the project will be paid a modest stipend.

Deadline for registration is 20 Jan 2022.

If you have any questions, please contact Dr Jack Tsao (jtsao@hku.hk) @ the Common Core.
