Critical Zones - Community-led Revitalisation of Mui Wo
We invite HKU undergraduate students to participate in this place-base , social impact transdisciplinary research project that engages with the Mui Wo community in co-creating ideas for revitalisation. The project will combine futures thinking, collective art, public dialogue, forest bathing, camping, and local food and practices to understand ways for regeneration and building resilience for long-term sustainability that recognises the interdependence of economic, ecological and social health and wellbeing.
Selected students should attend the introductory briefing (changed to in-person session on campus) on 24 Feb 2025, 1.30 pm -3.30 pm at the Common Core Lounge (MB150). The session may be video recorded in case you cannot make part due to timetable clashes.
Students must attend the two-day overnight camping retreat over 10 – 11 March 2025 (during Reading Week). The cost of the camping accommodation will be covered.
Students will work in teams to complete various research tasks, including a diagnosis of the Mui Wo community, visual maps and artworks, identifying grassroot initiatives, and producing a revitalisation handbook/ zine for the local community and public. Students’ outputs will be exhibited at the HKU Student Learning Festival on 30 April 2025.
A stipend of up to HK$1500 will be offered on completion of all activities and tasks.
The project is facilitated by Anna Iles of Flux Compass and partners up with local organisations, including Ark Eden, Friends of Lantau, and Good Old Soil.
