Mentorship in Undergraduate Transdisciplinary Research

The Common Core’s TransDisciplinary Undergraduate Research (TDUGR) program offers a mentoring scheme supported by a diverse group of staff and student mentors across the university’s ten faculties. The key idea is to provide support and guidance to undergraduate students in the research process to help them acclimate to what it is like to be a researcher. The TDUGR is in its second year of running and students have found the mentor-mentee scheme not only to be a strong foothold in helping them articulate research design and methodology but that it has opened up opportunities for sharing and communicating, and learning more about research from subject experts and many other researchers. In fact, student mentees, student mentors and staff mentors all see the mutual benefits of the strong mentor-mentee practice and find the interaction to be rewarding.
