Lai In ChiBA, Year 3

Hello everyone! My name is Gigi, and I’m a local student from Hong Kong, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Hong Kong, majoring in English Studies. My academic journey has been enriching, allowing me to explore the nuances of language and literature, which I find truly fulfilling.

In addition to my major, I have a strong interest in Japanese culture and Gender Studies. I find the exploration of cultural narratives and gender dynamics fascinating, as they provide unique perspectives on identity and society. This interdisciplinary approach broadens my understanding and encourages me to engage with diverse viewpoints.

Attending university has been a transformative experience for me, encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and learn more about myself. I truly value collaborative environments where I can exchange ideas and grow alongside others. I believe that personal growth is most meaningful when shared, and I am eager to contribute to the Common Core community.

The extensive range of courses provided by the Common Core offers a perfect avenue for students to meet new perspectives, explore interests, and venture beyond their comfort zones. While it can be initially daunting, the Common Core has introduced me to concepts beyond my major, revealing future pathways I had never considered. By fostering teamwork and collaboration, combining creativity with critical thinking, my experience in the Common Core has broadened my horizons, as it has for countless students before me.

I am always curious and eager to learn new things, whether in the arts, global issues, or interesting science facts. As a freshman during the epidemic, I once thought my university life would be less engaging. However, the Common Core has inspired me to continually seek new knowledge and skills. Although studying within this framework can be challenging, it encourages us to embrace every challenge as an opportunity to grow.

As a Common Core Student Consultant, I look forward to exchanging experiences with my schoolmates and ensuring that all voices are heard and valued. Thank you for this opportunity; I am genuinely excited about the journey ahead and the chance to learn and grow together!”
